The desire to make life of neighborhood and help neighbors who need it most is what prompted the shopkeepers of Horta to lose the shame and light clothes, pose last year, for a solidary calendar that caused furor among customers and neighbors, and this year made them dance and sing to the rhythm of rumba.
Then, traders managed to more than 4,500 euros to help the social dining room El Caliu, a figure that she was proposed to overcome, this year, with the edition of a rumbero video clip in which they are encouraged to buy in the neighborhood and which are intended to give impetus to three projects of the Centre of education special railroad, since the 1970s serving children with autism.
“We had to find something different with grace that would attract people to buy in the shops in the neighborhood,” explains the President of the foundation of trade heart of Horta, Manuel Arias. And after much thought decided to dare to dance with the help of Sant Gaudenci collective and group The Lito, who promoted the Catalan rumba in the neighborhood.
Together and dedicating many hours of testing after closing the shutters of his post to learn choreography saw birth her music video, with which say that, in addition to a Solidarity Act, also is it went very well.
“One of the most important things is the brotherhood that we have with the shopkeepers,” admits the energizing of the heart of Horta, Raquel Júlvez. Because everyone knows that they are difficult times for trade and, as it recognizes Júlvez, initiatives like this “help to work more forcefully and open every day the blind with a smile”.
An organization rooted in the neighborhood
In total, the shopkeepers have released 5,000 copies of the DVD, which can be purchased in the market of Horta, in the headquarters of the Foundation and several shops in the neighborhood at a symbolic price of one euro.
Along with the DVD – which also includes making the video clip-also sold a schedule made by railway children with drawings of the months of the year.
“Is a pride for children and families will be visible the work we do,” acknowledged Elisabeth Sánchez, Manager of the Center for special education. This school serves on a daily basis, approximately 45 children aged between 3 and 12, as well as the 130 who spend every week for the therapeutic space and individualized attention.
In addition to artists from schedules, are children who, in the video, teach the center inside. For Elisabeth Sanchez, to come “without any complex” is very important, since they do not from the perspective of: “Poor, has a disorder”, but from: “look, he has made this drawing and you are teaching your Center”.
School is deeply rooted in the neighborhood and which may be the beginning of a long collaboration that both parties can benefit. “the relationship with traders facilitates the integration of these children, because here we teach children to go to buy, move around the neighborhood… and have them on our side is very important.”
The money raised will finance three projects of the railway: one related to the plastic and artistic work of children with autism; another to create a documentary about the disease, and another boost to research based on the experience of the Centre.
