Barcelona is second largest city in Spain. The main industrial center of the country (cars, computers, chemicals, food processing) and financial area. A large sea port and airport – Prat de Llobregat.

Barcelona was founded by the Phoenicians, developed in antiquity (III century BC) as a Roman colony, it has evolved as one of the most important merchant republics of the Mediterranean. Romans built defensive walls survived in the Gothic Quarter. The city was temporarily occupied by the Carthaginians, and after the Second Punic War, went back under the roman domination. After the fall of Rome in 5th century the town was conquered by Vandals and Visigoths, that have formed their own state in Spain. For a short time Barcelona was the capital of the Visigoths.

Barcelona is famous for its architecture and unique style. It is also one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, full of charming historical buildings. You can see the influences of many culture – remains of Roman Imperium, medieval Gothic area, catalan Art Nouveau like Antonio Gaudí’s works and the contemporary architecture.

Barcelona Contemporary urban concept was developed by theorist of architecture Ildefonso Cerdá (he was said to be the “father” of urban planning, the author of the General Theory of Urban Development). The Cerdá’s plan had a considerable impact on the current image of the city. Barcelona is also a collection of architectural masterpieces. Homes, parks and gardens designed by Gaudí, Domčnech i Montaner and other architects, allow to appreciate the beauty of Art Nouveau buildings. In particular, we encourage you to go with a tour in the footsteps of Antoni Gaudi, the most famous Spanish designer.
