Popular Barcelona beaches… La Barceloneta
Barceloneta is an old part (old fishermen neighbourhood) of the city at the sea – Barceloneta Beach. You can come here by Metro or bus. There are many typical restaurants around that you can opt for lunch or dinner. Also, Barceloneta is famous with its beach. I would suggest you to walk through the park along Passeig de Juan de Borbo and Passeig de Colon at sunset – it is very beautiful. Try the best Paella from Barcelona for just 10 Euro per person in any of the restaurants of the Barceloneta. From Barceloneta you can continue to the next destination to be seen – El Born.
Barceloneta is a seaside neighborhood of Barcelona built during the eighteenth century and designed by the engineer of Prosper Verboom in order to accommodate the residents of the neighborhood of La Ribera who lost their homes, demolishing sent by Felipe V to build the Citadel. Its population is 22,428 inhabitants in the census done during 2008. (2008).
The neighborhood of Barceloneta owes its existence to the land that was won at sea to absorb the Isle of Maians.
The neighborhood is triangular in shape and borders on the beaches of the neighborhood and the sea, with Spain’s Wharf and Port Vell with the La Ribera, the station France and the new Olympic Port in the city. The urban structure of the neighborhood is a good example of the kind of urban design of the period of Enlightenment, with a rectilinear layout of streets and islands of regular houses. The type of housing was the origin of single-family homes and plant floor with access to two streets that have optimal ventilation. Over the years, and speculation, this structure has disappeared and we found buildings with heights well above those that were established in origin, in addition to the partition of the original houses in halves and quarters of the floor.
During the nineteenth century was a major industrial development with large factories disappeared today as the Land and Maritime engineering, now converted into a sports halls or educational institutions.
At the heart of the neighborhood is the church of Sant Miquel’s Square in Port of Barceloneta.
Since January 2008, is located the headquarters of Gas Natural, a unique building called Torre Marenostrum, designed by architects Enric and Benedetta Tagliabue Miralles. A lot of controversy has accompanied the construction of the Hotel Vela.
